During the War Years, 1939-1945, the S.S. Lillgunvor, part of the Norwegian Merchant Fleet, sailed into Bear River to load pulpwood for the Lincoln Pulpwood Company of Maine.  She made several trips during that time, receiving a full load in Bear River.  From the ship's log: "1941 - Left Bangor Maine on 7th Sept; sailed to Bear River returned to Bangor on the 12th."  Her average load was 1050 cords.

The above photo shows the S.S. Lillgunvor leaving Bear River with the aid of the local tug, the Josephine White.  In the background is the conveyor, built by Aubrey Young to aid the loading process.

The Lillgunvor was 242 feet long and 37 feet wide.
